Thoughts and Prayers Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys

I send my deepest condolences to the family of the Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jerry Brown who was killed in a car accident on the morning of December 8, 2012. Brown was in the passenger seat of Josh Brent’s car who was a friend and teammate. Brent and Brown went out to a night club the evening of December 7, 2012 and upon leaving the club and heading to an undisclosed location Brent crashed his car and after it flipped a few times it caught on fire. Brent later pulled Brown from the car, but once he was rushed to the hospital he was pronounced dead. This is devastating news to not only the friends and family of Jerry Brown, but also to all the fans of Cowboy nation. Brent was arrested and is currently facing charges of vehicular manslaughter. Drinking and driving is always an unsafe and selfish choice, its sad that after several deaths and tragedies people still choose to drink and drive. Two young and talented men’s careers have ended based off a night of irresponsible fun. My thoughts and prayers not only go out to Jerry Browns family and friends, but also to Josh Brent who faces a life in prison and the guilt of being the reason behind the death of a friend.

Got Glue?

1 Aug

Have you heard of GetGlue? If you’re like most people then the answer is no. I was turned onto this by a friend of mine, and I love it.

GetGlue is an entertainment-based social networking website for mobile devices. Users “check-in” to the entertainment that they consume using a website, mobile website, or a device-specific application. The service was launched in October 2008 by AdaptiveBlue, a NYC-based company. In November 2010 GetGlue was called a leader in the emerging social entertainment market by Bloomberg. GetGlue partners include 20th Century Fox, The CW, AMC, ABC Family, Disney Theatrical, Discovery, ESPN, FOX, Food Network, Hachette, HBO, HGTV, MTV, MSNBC, Showtime, Penguin, PBS, WWE, Random House, Simon and Schuster, Syfy, Sony Pictures, Travel Channel, USA Network, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. theatrical.

So what does all that mean? GetGlue lets you “check into” entertainment the same way Facebook and Foursquare let you check into locations. If you’re watching a movie, listening to music, playing a video game, etc. you “check into” what you are doing on GetGlue. This allows you to make comments that other people who like or check into that type of entertainment can see, and you can see comments left by other people. GetGlue is essentially building an entertainment based community over smart phones. GetGlue can also be linked to your Facebook, Foursquare, and Twitter accounts so you can share what you are watching/listening to/playing with your friends and followers. If you like unlocking stuff then you will be  a happy camper. With GetGlue you can unlock “stickers” by checking in. They even have exclusive sticker for things like opening weekend at a movie, or ComiCon.

I was a bit skeptical when I first tried it out, but there are some great people using this app. I have even received some good tips from other users for a video game I am playing. If you’re into social media and want another way to let the world know what you’re up to then I highly recommend you check out GetGlue.

What is the Flex Belt?

30 Jul

We all know we live in a fast paced nation and it may be a little difficult for us to find the time to work out. We all have hectic schedules, things we need to get done, some of us have children, others may just be too tired to get a work out in throughout the day. Well now that we have established the problem we can now move on to the solution. I came across this ab toning system called the Flex Belt. According to their website, the Flex Belt is the first ab belt toning system cleared by the FDA. It’s a system that firms and strengthens your abdomen! Slip it on, leave it on for 30 minutes, and your abs will be feeling the burn. Its patented medical-grade technology stimulates the nerves that make your abdomen muscles contract and relax. It clinically demonstrates stronger and more toned abs while you are virtually doing anything you want at the same time. The power of multi-tasking! But how does this product actually work? The Flex Belt contains three pre-positioned medical-grade gel pads that cover the central abdominals and external obliques. Throughout your toning session, the Flex Belt sends signals to your most concentrated nerves. This results in the nerves branching out causing them to naturally contract and relax. This works out your muscles simultaneously and not just those directly under the gel pads. Now your hectic schedule wont be a problem! This product is currently being endorsed by Denise Richards (Actress, Entrepreneur,  and Mother), Lisa Rinna (Actress, Author, and fitness lover), Adrianne Curry (TV Star, Model, and Fitness Fanatic), as well as other athletes. To find out more about the Flex Belt simply go to their website and see if this product is right for you.

Machinima in a Qube?

28 Jul

Listen up all you gamers out there! I’m hearing some buzz about Machinima. I’ve heard, in very hushed tones, that they are meeting with people from the new social media platform Qubeey. What will they be discussing? So far lips are tight about that, but if I were to speculate I’d say there’s talk of a future Machinima channel on the Qube. I would also go so far as to guess that, with the Qube’s video capabilities, there will be even more in store. Only time will tell. I, for one, am looking forward to hearing more.

Machinima is the next generation video entertainment network for video gamers, providing comprehensive gaming-focused editorial and community programming to the hard-to-reach core 18 – 34 year old male demographic. Across their global network, over 189 million unique gamers viewed in excess of 1.9 billion videos in June 2012, making them the number one all-time Entertainment Channel on YouTube. Machinima properties are found across the largest global distribution platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, iOS and Android.

In addition to producing expansive editorial content, the company’s suite of applications, tools, and technologies motivates players to be highly engaged and active with their favorite games. They build enthusiastic communities around and in between game launches and DLC releases, distributing “official” videos and producing custom content, creating the world’s most powerful gamer network.

The word “machinima” is a loose hybrid of the words “machine” and “cinema” and is used to describe the process of creating real-time animation by manipulating a videogame’s engine and assets.

U.S.A Qubed

25 Jul

I’ve heard from the little Buzz Bee that U.S.A. (United Sounds of Africa) may be getting together with Qubeey to bring their music to the social media scene. I have been told by an inside source that U.S.A. will be starting a channel on the Qubeey Qube. This same source has told me that there are plans in the work for some sort of “fan contest” for each of the artists who are on the tour. As of now there are no specifics about the contests, only that they are in the works.

U.S.A is a music project that brings the best African music vocalist/artists/composers together on a series and combining the diverse African cultures on all music formats/platforms globally. The music will emphasize unity and connections amongst Africa and the USA by working with new and existing partners to create music and cultural connections with their individual brands in the context of a global music agenda.

Artists:

2Face was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria and attended the Institute of Management and Technology [IMT], Enugu, where he did his National Diploma Course in Business Administration. A singer-songwriter, 2Face has a rich discography. He has three albums to date: Face2Face [ Kennis Music, 2004 ], Grass2Grace [ Kennis Music, 2006] and The Unstoppable [ Hypertek Label, 2008 and 2010 (International Version)]. ‘African Queen’, his Award Winning track was the sound track of the 2006 comedy film Phat Girlz. 2Face has won a lot of awards including Best African Act at the MOBO Awards in 2007 and the Best R&B Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards in 2009.

M.I’s encounter with Hip-Hop started with sampling the works of DMX and Lauryn Hill in 1998. He later delved into writing poetry. In 1999, M.I left for Calvin College, Michigan, USA to pursue a degree in business and economics. M.I returned to Plateau, Nigeria in 2005 to find the local music industry on the verge of a revolution and was set to take African Hip-Hop to new heights. A proficient producer, lyricist, songwriter and instrumentalist, M.I has been described by DIV as “the future of African Hip-Hop.” He has produced and featured on the works of artists like, Don Jazzy, Kel, Djinee, Shifi (Style Plus), Jesse Jags, Ice Prince, Ruby, Lindsey, Leony e.t.c. He also runs a production company, Rytchus Era Productions with his brother Jesse Abaga (Jesse Jagz).

Jesse Jagz has been described as Nigeria’s Kanye West because of his flirtatious experimentation with different genres of music from R&B to roots reggae to Pop all built on a predominantly Hip Hop foundation. Though a native of Pyeri in Taraba State, Jesse grew up in Jos, Plateau state in a music-filled environment with both parents (clergy) which gave him access to the church choir and drums set by age 7. In 2004, he hooked up with Jude Abaga a.k.a MI together they started Inner Hub Studios. By 2006, Jesse started a solo career with a debut-hit “Africa” that remained at #1 on the Cool FM chart for months. Between 2006 and 2007 Jesse Jagz had 3 songs simultaneously dominating the top ten charts on Cool FM, RayPower FM as well as Rhythm FM! becoming street anthems in and around the north of Nigeria. He also Released two new singles “Las Gidi Grinding” in July, 2011 and “Demo” in September 2011 respectively.

Brymo came in contact with a local talent manager, in 2007, who helped him record his debut Album BRYMSTONE. Later in 2010 he hooked up with Nigerian sensational Rapper M.I, whom later introduced him to Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince ushering him into chocolate city music label. Brymo has been described as the master of hooks; this is because of his contribution to the success of Ice Prince monster hit single Oleku’.

Timi Dakolo’s rich choice of words, depth of lyrics and soulful vocals, is always an experience for listeners. His calm, poise and disciplined demeanor as well as his stage performance is world class, one that would win the accolade of Royals. Simple, yet inspirational, Donald Timiebi Dakolo has broken through barriers and shot for the stars. Born to a Nigerian Father and a Ghanaian Mother, Timi Dakolo’s rise to fame was unprecedented. Not even in his wildest imagination did he think he would be this celebrated. This Accra-born Nigerian grew-up in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State where he spent a better part of his life with his paternal grandmother. His journey as a singer began in the early 90s when barely in his teens, he joined his church choir, a training route familiar to music artistes world over. He went on to compete and win a talent competition in Port Harcourt titled G.E Facto and the rest is history!

J. Martins was heavily influenced by his mother who was a choir mistress. As a child, he traveled with his mum a lot thus was exposed to various church choirs and learnt to play multiple instruments. He released his debut album GET SERIOUS in 2008, a monumental ten track album that positively impacted on the sounds scene of Nigerian music with massive radio hits like Good or bad, Cool Temper, Money Good and So Fly. Just recently, the master of pure African music dropped his third studio album titled SELAH, a Greek word for ‘Pause and Think’. J. Martins believe SELAH has more content that the previous two successful albums. He is even willing to refund money to fans who think otherwise!

The Newest Judge on “American Idol” is…

24 Jul

Mariah Carey!

Mariah Carey will be joining “American Idol” as a judge for season 12. The move comes on the heels of Steven Tyler exiting the hit singing competition, and Fox being unable to convince Lopez to sign on for a third round. Lopez was holding out for a raise beyond her $15 million second-year salary. I’ve heard buzz that Mariah Carey was a “nightmare to work with” during her brief stint as a guest mentor on “American Idol” in 2008. Mariah, who made her mentor cameo on “Idol” Season 7, was incredibly late for her shoot at the Beverly Hills Hotel,” not very nice at all,” and ridiculously nitpicky about tiny details.

Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She made her recording debut in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and released her self-titled debut studio album, Mariah Carey. The album went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles, on the U.S.Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of hit records, including Emotions (1991), Music Box (1993) and Merry Christmas (1994), established her position as Columbia’s highest-selling act. Daydream (1995), made music history when the second single, “One Sweet Day” a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest-running number-one song in US chart history. During the recording of the album Carey began to deviate from her pop background, and slowly traversed into R&B and Hip-hop. After her separation from Mottola, this musical change was evident with the release of Butterfly (1997).

Carey left Columbia in 2000, and signed a record-breaking $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records. In 2001, Carey ventured into film with Glitter (2001). Before the film’s release she suffered a physical and emotional breakdown and was hospitalized for severe exhaustion. Following the film’s poor reception, she was bought out of her recording contract for $50 million, which led to a decline in her career. She signed a multi-million dollar contract deal with Island Records in 2002, and after an unsuccessful period, returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). Its second single “We Belong Together” became her most successful single of the 2000s, and was later named “Song of the Decade” byBillboard. Carey once again ventured into film, and starred in Precious (2009). Her role in the film was well-received, and she was awarded the “Breakthrough Performance Award” at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and a NAACP Image Award nomination.

In a career spanning over two decades, Carey has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 1998, she was honored as the world’s best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards. Carey was also named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), she is the third-best-selling female artist in the United States, with 63 million certified albums. With the release of “Touch My Body” (2008), Carey gained her eighteenth number one single in the United States, more than any other solo artist. Aside from her commercial accomplishments, Carey has won five Grammy Awards, and is famed for her five-octave vocal range, power, melismatic style and signature use of the whistle register.

Street League 2012- Who Will Prevail?

23 Jul

August 26th, 2012 marks the finals of Rob Dyrdek’s Street League Skateboarding championship competition! 24 of the world’s greatest professional skateboarders are chosen to show off their skills.  When finals roll around, 8 skateboarders are left to compete. This competition is held annually May through August with $200,000 & the title of “Champion” on the line. Don’t worry, the losers get prize money as well.

Rob Dyrdek actually first came up with the idea of Street League about 7 years ago. Dyrdek’s determination helped his vision come to life resulting in a multi-million dollar business. He was able to bring Street League directly into the public’s homes, proving that skateboarding isn’t just a “street” thing. The first Street League competition was held in 2010 and now it is hitting its second year anniversary, gaining more and more popularity each year.

Who do you think will win this year? Most people’s money is on the 17 year old professional skateboarder, Nyjah Huston. He has snagged more that $650,000 in prize money and has won 6 of 9 Street League competitions. A huge accomplishment for this young man given his age and achievements. Will he prevail again this year??? There are some other big names in Street League that might ring a bell like Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, Chris Cole, Chaz Ortiz, etc. Pretty hefty competition if you ask me. Currently Paul Rodriguez is on top of the leader boards, but the numbers can always change. So tune in onto ESPN2 on August 26th for the finals to see who wins the prize money and the title of Street League Champ!
